Getting an Ohio real estate license: common questions

How many hours of pre-license education does Ohio require?

100 hours across four courses: Real Estate Principles and Practices (40 hours), Ohio Real Estate Law (40), Real Estate Appraisal (10) and Real Estate Finance (10).

How long are my courses valid?

If you haven't held a real estate license in the four years before you apply, you must have completed the courses within the 10 years before your application.

Do I need a background check?

Yes. Both state and FBI criminal records checks are required; the instructions are on the Salesperson Examination Application.

What happens after I apply?

The Division reviews your application and, once it's accepted, sends your information to the testing vendor. The vendor then sends you a Candidate Information Bulletin with scheduling instructions.
