North Carolina CE renewal: common questions

How many CE hours do North Carolina brokers need?

Eight hours each year: a 4-hour Update course and one 4-hour Commission-approved elective, finished by June 10 to renew on active status.

Which Update course should I take?

Provisional brokers and non-BIC brokers take General Update. Brokers-in-charge and BIC-eligible brokers should take BICUP; a BIC who takes General Update instead stays active but loses BIC status or eligibility.

Can I renew if I haven't finished my CE?

Yes. Renew online by June 30 even if you miss the June 10 CE deadline. If you don't renew, your license expires and you must stop providing brokerage services.

Do postlicensing courses count as CE?

No. NCREC says postlicensing courses don't provide CE credit.

Do I need an ethics course to renew?

Not for the Commission. The ethics requirement comes from the National Association of REALTORS®, not NCREC.
