New York first renewal: common questions
Does New York require post-licensing education?
No. There's no separate post-license course. Your first renewal requires the standard 22.5 hours of continuing education.
What do I need for my first renewal?
22.5 hours of approved CE, including 2 hours of cultural competency, 2 hours of implicit bias, 2.5 hours of ethical business practices, 1 hour of recent legal matters and 3 hours of fair housing, and 2 hours of law of agency completed within the two years before you renew.
When is my first renewal due?
Two years after you're licensed. The Department of State emails you and mails a postcard about three months before your expiration date.
Can a broker course count toward my CE?
Yes. A salesperson who completes an approved broker qualifying course, including its final exam, during the current term gets CE credit. You still need the 2.5 hours of ethical business practices and 1 hour of recent legal matters.
