Getting a New York real estate license: common questions
How many hours of pre-license education does New York require?
77 hours of approved salesperson qualifying education. You also have to pass the school's proctored exam before you take the state exam.
Does my qualifying course expire?
Once it has been applied toward a license, the Department of State says it won't expire and can later be used toward an upgrade.
Does New York have reciprocity with other states?
No. If you completed education outside New York, you can submit a written waiver request with proof of completion, a topic-and-hours outline and a course description.
How do I apply after I pass?
Apply online through your eAccessNY account. Your sponsoring broker then logs in and authorizes the application, and your license is mailed to your business address once it's approved.
How much does it cost?
The state exam is $15 and the initial salesperson application is $65. Application fees are nonrefundable.
