Getting a Colorado real estate license: common questions

How many hours of pre-license education does Colorado require?

168 hours: Real Estate Law and Practice (48), Colorado Contracts and Regulations (48), Trust Accounts and Recordkeeping (8), Current Legal Issues (8), Real Estate Closings (24) and Practical Applications (32).

Can a degree replace the courses?

Yes. A degree from an accredited college or university with a major in real estate can substitute for the 168 hours.

When do I submit fingerprints?

Before you submit your license application. Fingerprints go to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation for a state and national background check.

I'm licensed in another state. What do I need?

If you've held a non-expired license for at least two years, you pass only the state portion of the exam and provide a certified license history dated within 90 days.
